Our 2017 Delegate to the UN Pilgrimage for Youth

On Thursday November 3, a group of members met to select our new 2017 delegate to the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs UN Pilgrimage for Youth. We had the pleasure of meeting our single applicant, Jacqueline Martinez, a junior at Pescadero High School. Jacqueline read her essay, titled "Blank Years," about why she wanted to participate in this program, followed by interview questions from the Selection Team.

delegateQuestions were about her school presentations, her drawings of birds, her work as a Vet Assistant, her interest in science and computer engineering, her short and long term goals, and her responsibility to assist our campaign next year in recruiting more Juniors to apply for this program. The Selection Team was very impressed with Jacqueline's 500 word essay on the United Nations and the high praise her 3 references gave her.

Jackie, as she likes to be called, was her high school's Top Student in English, Integrated Science, Biology, Art, Career Exploration and Financial Management and World History in one or both grade levels she has completed at Pescadero High so far. She was also elected to the Dream Team for Algebra 2. She has played Varsity Volleyball, was elected Class Secretary one year and Class Treasurer the next.

As one reference stated: "You will be proud when one day you see Jacqueline Martinez on the cover of TIME magazine and know the Odd Fellows were part of her great personal journey." Jackie was formally introduced as our 2017 Delegate before our November 10 Business meeting.
